The story of the IWC Schaffhausen watch company begins in 1868, with the construction of their luxury pocket watches. Soon the IWC Schaffhausen pocket watches became more popular and advanced, with the innovative digital pocket watch model in 1885 and the introduction of the wristwatch at the end of the 19th century.
The IWC Schaffhausen watch company initially built their existing pocket watch movements into their wristwatches; and soon developed extremely precise movements to complement their new IWC watch product line. Emerging pilots began using IWC watches, as they were oversized for readability and unaffected by the harmful magnetic fields in flight.
